Web and Social Media

Web and social media are quick communication tools that allow our journalism program to connect with the community for low or no cost. We are able to spread information about news stories, sports, after school activities, and accomplishments to a wide audience. CavPlex consists of different publications, such as broadcast, the online newspaper, the yearbook, and the literary magazine. Through our online presence, we are able to connect across our different publications to produce a story package or to increase awareness. Our publications have increased brand awareness not only for our own publications but for our school community.

On January 1, 2025, a new policy, Free to Focus, went into effect in South Carolina. This law prohibits students from accessing phones or personal devices from the start of the school day until after the final bell to release students. This law has impacted our access to some websites and social media platforms and the ability to post certain content. These limitations are having an impact on the journalism program as we are not able to post during the school day.

RNE- TV Live Instagram

As the Social Media Lead for RNE-TV Live’s news show, I post regularly to engage with my school community. Staff pictures, featured guests, and fun skits are all included on our Instagram page. While our social media coverage has been impacted by South Carolina's Policy Prohibiting Use of Personal Electronic Devices during the School Day, we are working towards finding unique ways to reach our school community.

The Saber Instagram

While I am not a Social Media Lead for the online newspaper, The Saber, I am required to post my own stories. Posts include what the story is about, the featured image for the story, and where the story can be found.

Collaboration

On Instagram, CavPlex is able to connect with other people or groups through hashtags. For the C-SPAN StudentCam Competition, I connected to their Instagram allowing me to enter into the “Behind the Scenes” Photo Sub-Competition, where I was selected as one of the winners.

YouTube

CavPlex maintains a YouTube channel called RNE-TV Live. On our channel, each episode of the news show is posted. Individual broadcast stories are posted as well. On this platform, we can share and store large videos which allows for ease in organizing work and maintaining a digital record.

Live Posting

The Saber, CavPlex's online newspaper uses live posting on X to keep people up to date on special events going on around the school. This is an example of coverage that I did for an event.
